Verifying the Grape Street rumor
Months ago when I moved to SD, I  heard rumors that if you stood on Grape Street, the planes roaring in to land would practically fall on your head. Of course, being more than a casual aviation enthusiast (I love me some mechanical birds, let me tell you), I had to verify this with my own eyes. I parked my car, shut off the engine, and prayed I wouldn't get picked up for suspicion of being a terrorist. No more than 20 seconds later, I heard that familiar roar and I raised my camera phone to the sky. Here's what I got...

             and then this...

I don't think these pictures illustrate how very low these planes were flying (especially the first one). But thank you, FEDEX and Southwest, for bringing in the cargo and making me s*** my pants at the same time...LOL

Just wanted to share...;-)

You know, I'm scared of flying too. I hate it. I've been on so many planes and the thing is it never gets any easier. Ever. The only flights where I manage to hold it all together are the ones where I'm super super tired (no sleep the night before). In those cases I can pretty much have an "I don't give a rats" attitude and deal with it. The rest of the time I usually down liquor. And the worst thing is I never sleep. EVER.

I know. I can never sleep either. I sit holding the chair arms until my knuckles turn white.

OMG -- story of my life ... white knuckles on flights. The last two flights I was on were doozies, too. One was flying into a NY sleet storm (in a 737 no less, so we felt EVERYTHING - we were the last flight to make it in and boy did those pilots sound nervous), the other was just a plain ol' turbulent flight East to West coast when it was bumpy nearly the whole way (I guess that happens when it's cold). The absolute worst -- WORST -- though was flying into Denver. I did it a couple of times and swore I'd never do it again. Once you hit the rockies, everything gets shot to hell. Someone actually screamed "We're all going to die!!!!". Nice.

LOL - no. But I practically killed the husband because he had a ultra-calm look on his face and kept trying to talk to me. I was like...

"Stop talking to me! Don't you know I'm trying to fly this g/d plane?"

All this from row 26, middle seat. Like I'm the damn pilot or something..LOL
